Fabrics & details

Fabric, color and the details that make it your product.

Composition, weight, color development, surface decoration, and the labels and packaging that carry your brand.

Most of what a customer feels in a garment is decided before it is sewn. Fabric choice, color approval and the detail work are what separate a generic style from your product, and they are also where the calendar is won or lost.

Scope

What we can source and develop

Everything below sits inside this service rather than being sold as a separate product.

  • Fabric sourcing and development against your composition and weight requirements
  • Stock fabric, or fabric produced to your specification
  • Lab dips and custom color developed against your reference
  • Print, embroidery and artwork development
  • Trims and accessories sourced against the approved sample
  • Main label, care label, hangtag and packaging produced from your artwork

Process

How material and detail decisions run

Material decisions drive the calendar, so they are confirmed early rather than in parallel with sampling.

  1. 01

    Brief

We agree what the fabric has to do: composition, weight, handle, and the market the garment is selling into.

    You receive

    • An agreed material brief
  2. 02

    Sourcing

Options are sourced or developed and checked for availability before they are proposed, so a chosen fabric is one that can actually be booked.

    You receive

    • Fabric options with composition and weight
    • Availability, and fabric minimums where they apply
  3. 03

    Color

Color is developed through lab dips submitted against your reference. The approved dip becomes the standard for bulk.

    You receive

    • Lab dip submissions for your approval
  4. 04

    Surface

Prints, embroidery and other decorative processes are trialled before they reach a sample, so artwork problems surface early.

    You receive

    • Strike-offs or embroidery trials for your approval
  5. 05

    Brand details

Labels, trims and packaging are produced from the artwork you supply, so the garment ships as your product rather than ours.

    You receive

    • Main label, care label and hangtag
    • A packing specification
  6. 06

    Bulk booking

Bulk fabric and trims are booked against the approved standard, and bulk color is checked against the approved dip.

    You receive

    • Confirmed bulk material references

Reference timings

Reference timings

These are estimates, not guarantees. Fabric, construction, revision rounds, approval speed and scheduling all move the date.

  • Fabric productionAbout 15–45 daysWhen the fabric has to be produced rather than taken from stock. This runs before garment production starts.
  • Sample with stock fabricAbout 10 daysWhich is why a stock fabric shortens the whole calendar and a developed fabric lengthens it.
  • Color and surface developmentConfirmed per projectLab dip and trial rounds depend on your references and artwork, so they are scheduled once those are in hand.

Decision points

What usually needs a decision

Most delays come from these four, not from the work itself.

Stock fabric or fabric to be produced

Stock fabric is faster and has no minimum. A developed fabric gives you the exact composition and handle you want, and adds 15–45 days plus a fabric minimum. Which one is right depends on how much the material defines the product.

Shade variation between dye lots

Stock fabric can vary in shade between dye lots, and a repeat order may not match the first delivery exactly. We raise this before bulk so an acceptable tolerance is agreed rather than discovered at inspection.

Artwork readiness

Labels, hangtags and packaging are produced from the artwork you supply. Final artwork needs to exist before those can be booked, and it is often the last thing to arrive.

Fabric minimums

A custom fabric carries its own minimum order, which is separate from the garment MOQ. The two together decide whether a smaller run is viable.

Buyer questions

Questions we are asked about this service.

Share Your Requirements
01Can you match a Pantone reference?

Yes. Color is developed through lab dips submitted against your reference, and the approved dip becomes the standard for bulk rather than the original Pantone chip.

02Do you source the fabric, or do we supply it?

Either. We can source and develop fabric against your brief, or work with fabric you supply. If you supply it, we confirm quantity, width and the inspection position before cutting.

03Will the bulk fabric match the sample exactly?

For stock fabric, shade can vary between dye lots, so bulk may differ slightly from the sample or from a previous delivery. We agree an acceptable tolerance with you before bulk rather than after, and you can always have the bulk shade approved against the approved dip.

04Can you produce our labels, hangtags and packaging?

Yes. Main labels, care labels, hangtags and packaging are produced from your artwork, so the garment arrives as your product. This is part of development rather than a separate service.
